Event: EU-Nough Tech Rules? – The Realities of Scaling in Europe, 30 June in Amsterdam

As Europe seeks to boost its competitiveness, many tech founders warn that fragmented and overlapping EU digital rules are making it harder for them to innovate and scale across the Single Market.

On Tuesday 30 June in Amsterdam, DutchBasecamp and CCIA Europe are teaming up for an exclusive discussion where founders share first-hand experiences of navigating EU tech regulation. The event will also mark the launch of new research based on in-depth interviews, revealing how EU digital rules impact Europe’s startup and scale-up leaders.

About the event

Tech founders want to build and scale in Europe – but increasingly feel constrained by a fragmented and complex EU regulatory landscape that effectively caps their growth. Recent findings from the European Investment Bank (EIB) point to a “perceived non-existence of the Single Market” with EU rules that are “fragmented, bureaucratic, and risk-averse.” In practice, this translates into costs, delays, and friction that slow down even the most ambitious founders – pushing tech startups and scale-ups to expand elsewhere.

To capture the real-world impacts of EU tech rules, DutchBasecamp has conducted a unique study grounded in the lived experiences of 130 (and counting) tech founders building and scaling across Europe today. Based on in-depth interviews with companies from Seed to Series F, this new research reveals how EU regulatory obligations directly affect hiring, market entry, product design, and the speed of growth.

In parallel, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) launched its ‘Simplify EU Tech Rules. Unlock Innovation.’ campaign in Brussels last year, calling on EU policymakers to take a more ambitious approach to simplification – cutting unnecessary red tape and reducing overlapping regulation.

On Tuesday 30 June in Amsterdam, DutchBasecamp and CCIA Europe are joining forces for an exclusive event giving founders a platform to share their experiences directly. The goal is to ensure that EU policymakers hear what’s at stake – and urgently take concrete actions to make Europe a place where scaling is a choice – not a compromise.
